I always tell people that when I listen to the radio, I listen to the radio. It’s a lot more than just background noise to me, and I am ordinarily listening with comprehension. But first thing in the morning, they are talking faster than my brain, and I have “morning ears” — things just sound different to me when I first wake up. (Side note: Try this. Listen to a favorite song on a CD during the afternoon or evening, and listen to it again the next morning, first thing after you get up. It will sound faster in the morning, and slower at night.)
The show is extremely fast-paced. There’s typically never a lag or a dull moment. Joe and the sports director, Rick Couri, occasionally engage in a little light banter when they’re not doing the bing-bang-boom weather, traffic, headlines, sports, as they do for most of the show. I love both of these guys because it’s obvious that they have no tolerance for the nonsense liberals say and do any more than I have. But, they keep it such that their disapproval and sarcasm are probably subtle enough to be missed by some casual observers (i.e., people from Rio Linda, California), and far from being anything that could prompt accusations of being agenda-oriented or activists.
What was different about yesterday morning was the Joe was off on an absolute rant... as I remember it was about liberals, lies, deception, and B. Hussein Obama.
I thought to myself, “wow, Joe, you’re really stepping out beyond the usual boundaries,” but at the same time, I was thinking, “Yes! You are so right!” Shortly, Joe #1 stopped talking and then Joe #2 started talking... it turned out that “Joe #1” was actually Sean Hannity. Confusing and then amusing.
I never really considered the two as sounding similar. Hannity’s a yankee, and Kelley’s a Texan. But I had a good chuckle at myself.
That was yesterday. Then, this morning, I heard Joe at it again! And I had the same thoughts — “Woohoo! He is so right on!” ...uh... yeah, Hannity again.
KRMG has a way for you to send them text messages during the show... so I decided to send one, since they had fooled me (unintentionally) twice. Normally I don’t use a lot of typical chat shorthand in my text messages, but space was limited...
“FUNNY, is 2nd time u played a Hannity clip & I missed the intro: as I listened, I've thought, ‘Wow JOE's certainly worked up! GO JOE!’ then figured out isn't Joe.”They occasionally mention something offhand on air about a text message they received, and that would have been cool (the ego boost from having been clever enough to have contributed a snippet to the show) but I figured this was a little too obscure to merit any on-air attention, so I left it at that and hoped they would at least read it and have a good laugh among themselves.
What I did not expect was that I would get back a text message response from Joe on my cell phone:
“What’s really amusing is when I have my radio on KRMG turned down low, I think I'm hearing my voice. I turn it up and it’s Hannity. :) Joe”So if you were tempted to laugh at me mistaking two totally different people for each other, I think I’m pretty well exonerated if one of the guys confuses the other one for himself. :)
